topSCPA INTERLEAGUE MATCH FIVE - 22ND JUNE 2012.
STONE POOL LEAGUE V STAFFORD A @Longton Snooker Club, Longton.
Stafford A travelled to newcomers Stone Pool league and came away with a fine 12-6 success. Stafford A welcomed back Captain Dave Whitfield after his holiday, Martin Priestley & Mark Billingsley while Gav Davies (holiday), Shaun Cooper (weekend break) and Sean Alldritt were not available.
Stafford started slowly with Alan Sim in complete control and Lee Whitehouse showing good form winning 2 of the first 4 frames for the visitors. Stafford then started to pick it up with Dave Barker pulling Stafford ahead after a fine clearance and then Martin Priestley returned to the side and cleared the table with 1 visit to give the Stafford lads a 2 frame cushion. Back came Stone as they claimed 2 of the next 3 frames only for Mark Billingsley to win his game in no time. At the halfway stage Stafford A led 5-4.
Stafford A needed to start strongly after the break and Whitehouse carried on from where he left off in the first half winning his 2nd frame of the night. While Dave Whitfield's opponent was on for a dish but missed his penultimate ball and let Whitfield in who patiently won his frame to give the visitors a 7-4 lead. Giles Eastwood extended the lead with his win to make up for his earlier disappointment, but Stone were determined to keep in touch and they won 2 of the next 3 frames to trail 8-6. Mick Addison ensured Stafford A didn't lose with a fine clearance to make it 9-6 and it was left to Martin Priestley to provide a quality finish to give the Stafford Lads a unassailable lead. Dave Barker made it 10 out of 10 in the league this season as he finished his game in no time while his brother Mike made the final score 12-6 and so bring home the winning points to Stafford.
A fine and accomplished performance by Stafford A as they continue to challenge for promotion back to the Elite section. They return to home action in the next game to play 3rd place Afford Baize on the 6th July @Rileys, Stafford.
MOM was very close and so I jointly give to both Martin Priestley & Lee Whitehouse with their 2 wins on the night closely followed by Dave Barker who is showing very good form in this campaign.

topTT BAIZE v STAFFORD A
Friday 18th May 2012 at Green Baize, Hanley.
The Stafford A side came away from their latest Interleague fixture with relieved expressions on their faces after a 10-8 victory over a struggling side who could only field 8 players on the night.
A poor start to the match saw the home side go into a 2-0 lead before wins for Giles Eastwood, Dave Barker and Mike Barker put the Stafford team into a 3-2 advantage. However, the Hanley team responded with 3 wins of their own on the bounce. The missing home player in frame 9 helped the Stafford team reduce the first half deficit to 5-4.
A positive start after the interval switched the lead back to Stafford as Giles Eastwood and Dave Barker claimed their second frame wins of the night. Again, the home team hit back, claiming frame 12, before Stafford took control with wins for Sean Alldritt and Mick Addison.
It was left to Lee Whitehouse to secure the team victory on the night as the Baize claimed another couple of frames to make the final score 10-8 to the Stafford side.
MOTM goes to Giles Eastwood who played the best pool of the night in claiming his two frame wins.
STAFFORD POLE v AFFORD PLAZA
Friday 18th May 2012 at the Hop Pole.
Stafford Pole just missed out on causing an upset in their Interleague fixture when the side hosted league leaders Afford Plaza. A big first half lead by the Stafford team was whittled away by the Afford boys who went on to claim a 10-8 victory.
The next fixture is the Interleague Knockout tournament on Saturday 2nd June at Players in Newcastle with an 11:30am start.

topLEEK B v STAFFORD A
Friday 20th April 2012 @Prince of Wales, Leek.
STAFFORD A made the long journey to Leek and recorded a fine 10-8 win. Captain Dave Whitfield welcomed back Gav Davies and Lee Whitehouse to the starting line up. Missing from this game were Martin Priestley, Sean Alldritt, Jim Simpson & Mark Billingsley who all had other commitments on the night.
Stafford started slowly and were 4-1 down in a short space of time. Dave Barker again showed good form as he broke and took complete control of the frame to win. Alan Simm & Mick Addison had chances in their games but both failed to take their opportunities, coupled with bad luck and good performances from their opposite players. Gav Davies set out to put Stafford back in the match and he did it in fine style with a break & dish to make it 4-2 down. Dave Whitfield had a great chance to pull one back but, after potting the black, he then unfortunately clipped one of his opponent's balls into the middle pocket. It was left to Mike Barker to try and close the gap and he duly cleared in fine style to pull it back to 5-3. Lee Whitehouse was on last in the first half. He started well and looked on course for a 'dish' but he then missed the black. However, a loose shot from his opposite number let Whitehouse back in he made sure to keep the Stafford lads in the match at 5-4 down at the halfway point.
Stafford needed to start strongly in the second half and it was Giles Eastwood who pulled off a fine pot on the black to level the scores at 5-5. Shaun Cooper battled hard but the experience of his opposite number came through as he capitalised on an error to make it 6-5 to the hosts. Dave Barker carried on his form from earlier to level the scores with some excellent potting to claim a break & dish, that seemd to have a positive effect on the team. The turning point of the match saw Alan Simm make up for his earlier disappointment. His opponent looked to have sewn up the match but amazingly missed the black down the rail and Simm siezed the chance to put the Stafford lads ahead for the first time in the match at 7-6. Back came Leek as they won frame 14 with Whitehouse just failing to take his chance. Up stepped Whitfield and he was determined to make up for his disappointment earlier by claming an important win to put the Stafford lads 8-7 up. Mick Addison was next up and he showed the fighting spirit and experience needed to win the game to give some breathing space between the 2 sides. Then Gav Davies came to the fore and he showed nerves of steel as he closed out the game to win the match for the Stafford A team. Mike Barker narrowly lost his last game, but a 10-8 win was the Final score to give Stafford A two precious points.
MOM was a difficult decision between Dave Barker & Gav Davies who both recorded 2 wins each including a break & dish, but Davies just pips it because of potting the winning black ball. However, a SUPERB team performance and team spirit was the big factor in this fine result.
Stafford A are currently lying 2nd and will travel to lowly TT Baize on 18th May.
AFFORD BAIZE v STAFFORD POLE
Friday 20th April @Green Baize, Hanley.
Stafford Pole travelled to Hanley to play Afford Baize and narrowly lost 10-8.
A fine start saw Stafford Pole take a 3-0 lead with Chris Colley, Dave Baker & Paul Loughead all winning. But back came Afford who clawed back the deficit to 5-4 down at the halfway point. Jason Armishaw and Gaz Bryant keeping the Pole's nose in front.
The second half started well with the Pole taking a 7-5 lead in the match with both Duncan Sunderland and Colley (his 2nd win on the night) winning their matches. However, a run of 5 straight defeats saw the Pole hand the match over to Afford Baize to undo all the hard work from earlier on. Simon Key managed to win the final frame but was too late to prevent Afford Baize running out 10-8 winners.
MOM goes to Chris Colley with his two wins on the night.
Stafford Pole in the next match host league leaders Afford Plaza on 18th May.

topBURSLEM v STAFFORD A
Friday 23rd March 2012 - SCPA Interleague Match 2
Stafford A travelled to Burslem for their 2nd match off the year and returned with a hard earned 9-9 draw. Dave Whitfield gave Mick Addison, Shaun Cooper and new signing Jim Simpson their first starts of the season. This was due to Lee Whitehouse, Gav Davies, Mark Billingsley & Steve Finney not being able to play because of personal commitments.
Stafford A started slowly but then got going with wins from Dave Barker and Giles Eastwood who both took their chances well to make the scores 2-2. Mick Addison, Mike Barker & Alan Simm then gave the Stafford lads a 5-3 lead but a fine clearance from the Burslem player denied Dave Whitfield a chance to extend the lead at the halfway point.
The second half saw Burslem hit back as they ran up a 7-5 lead and things were looking a bit shaky for the Stafford lads. However a few nervous twitches let Stafford back in with Dave Barker (2nd win of the night) and Whitfield levelling the scores at 7-7. Alan Simm lost a tactical frame but then Addison saw his opponent miss a long straight black and he showed composure to clear and make it 8-8. A similar pattern followed in Martin Priestley's game as he was staring at defeat but amazingly his opponent 'tweaked' on a shot and Priestley cleared his reamaining 7 balls to put the Stafford lads 9-8 up! It was left to Mike Barker but unfortunately it didnt happen for him as he got embroiled in a tactical frame and the opposing player (with a bit of fortune) managed to close the frame out and level the match at 9-9.
A Fair Result with both teams feeling maybe if they took their chances they might have been looking at a win on the night.
MOM just goes to Dave Barker for his two wins with Mick Addison also playing well for his 2 wins.
Stafford A travel to Leek in their next match on Friday 20th April.
The Stafford Pole picked up their first win the season with a 11-7 win over newcomers Stone Pool League. Paul Loughhead, Simon Key, Chris Colley, Ian Lewis (all 2 each) Kev Brown, Jason Armishaw & Neil Dale all won.
