Stafford Sunday entertained Stafford Blaize in this latest Interleague Match. Both teams were not just playing for the points but for top bragging rights and it was the Blaize who got to a fine start after winning 2 of the first three frames through Spencer Trow and Chris Broomhall. Stafford Sunday came back to win the next 3 frames with birthday boy Mick Addsion along with Mike Barker and Kev Brown all winning. Brendon Ruttledge and Lee Haidarovic pulled things back to 4-4 but Steve Finney had the final say of the First half as he put the 'Sunday' team 5-4 ahead. The Sunday team got off to a better start in the 2nd half with Alan Sim making it a double on the night along with Dave Barker to put the 'Sunday' 7-4 ahead. But the Blaize refuse to give in as they took advantage of some sloppy play to make it 7-6. Dave Baker and Spencer Trow were the victors. Up stepped Mick Addison and he celebrated his Birthday with a fine dish along with Kev Brown and Tom Tonna, the 'Sunday' team picked up maximun points to go 10-6 ahead. Scott Haidarovic and Brendon Ruttledge picked up the last 2 frames to make the final score 10-8. This win keeps Stafford Sunday in the hunt for promotion back to the top tier.
topStafford Sunday put in another solid performance to win their latest Interleague match at home against Crompos. The 6-3 first half score reflected the superior tactical play of the Stafford team alongside some calm finishes. A run of frame wins after the interval then put the home side into an unassailable lead of 11-4. Wins in the final 3 frames of the match for the away team gave the final scoreline some respectability for the Tunstall side. Putting in good shifts on the night with double frame wins were Dave Arrowsmith, Dave Barker and Simon Key. The win keeps the Stafford team in joint top place in the League.
Stafford Blaze came away from Alsager with smiles on their faces after pulling off a 10-8 win.
Players from both teams can now look forward to their local derby at the end of the month.
topRileys Cue are the new Stan Bent Team Knockout Champions for 2009/10. 1st Div champions Rileys Cue were up against the 1st div runners up Joiners A and it proved to be an excellent final of fine potting, tactical play and some good fortune. Rileys Cue were going for the double but they knew from the start that the Joiners were going to make it very difficult for them.
FRAME ONE. Kev Brown (Cue) was first up against Simon Davies (Joiners) and after a nervy start from both players they both settled and started to get themselves into the game. After an exchange of tactical play, an error by Davies let Brown in and he seized the initiative and duly cleared with the aid of a kind kiss to put the Cue men 1-0 up.
FRAME TWO. County A and IPA tour player Rob Wharne was pitted against Paul Shepard (Joiners). Both players set out their stall for attacking pool and it was Rob Wharne who had the first chance. He then fell short on his final red and let Shepard in and it looked good until he left himself a long yellow into the top corner. He hit it with pace to guarantee position on the black but missed the pocket but it travelled all round the table and went straight into the corner and also landed perfect on the black and he sank it to level it 1-1.
FRAME THREE. Two ex county players were paired against each other as Mike Barker (Cue) took on Andy Rawlinson (Joiners). This was going to be a close fought match as both players showed a lot of respect. Rawlinson had some chances but it was Mike who was let in and he snapped up the chance and put the Cue men 2-1 up.
FRAME FOUR. Dave Barker (Cue) was on next and he faced the challenge of Daz Waters (Joiners). Both players were feeling the pressure and with Barker not seizing the opportunity it went into a tactical exchange with Waters holding the upper hand. This forced a mistake from Barker and Waters cleared comfortably
FRAME FIVE. The second half of the match saw Martin Priestley (Cue) up against County player Lee Grout (Joiners). Both players played with an all out attacking game. First in saw Grout clear the first 5 balls with ease but fell short on position and a chance fell to Priestley. He played some excellent shots upto his last ball but unfortunately left position short. He went for a fine cut on the black but only brought Grouts ball out in the open and he snapped at the chance to put the Joiners 3-2 up.
FRAME SIX. Dave Whitfield (Cue) was drawn against Paul Shepard (Joiners). Shep was still buzzing after his fine win earlier in the match and it looked good after potting his first 5 balls but then lost position and could only see a fraction of his ball. Unfortunately after clipping the ball he then went in-off. Whitfield saw a chance to level the match and when left his final 2 balls he calmly potted and positioned the ball and doubled the black into middle to level the scores.
FRAME SEVEN. So it was down to the decider and it was County player Rob Wharne up against div one average winner Andy Rawlinson. Both players felt the tension and so they both played with caution and respect. After a lengthy spell of tactical play it was Rawly who made the first and only mistake, he failed to hit a cushion and this gave Wharne an opening. He took his time and measured his clearance to perfection and he doubled the final black into the corner much to the delight of his team-mates and secured the Stan Bent team Knockout trophy running out 4-3 winners. A great final played in fine spirit to end a successful season for the Rileys Cue.
Rileys A secured the Subsidiary Team KO trophy after 4-1 success over 2nd div Rickerscote Arms A. Captain Giles Eastwood led the way with 2 wins on the night and he was ably supported by Jim Morrison and Dan France. Steve Bradley was the sole winner for the Ricky A who missed out again after losing 2 years earlier.
topThe Stafford Sunday side came away from Staffordshire Moorlands with their best win of the season to date. The 12-6 triumph was set up by double wins on the night by the quartet of Mike Barker, Alan Simm, Tom Tonna and Steve Finney. Able support was provided by Dave Barker, Gaz Baker, Kev Brown and Simon Key. The 6-3 half-time scoreline was replicated in the 2nd half as the Stafford boys put in their best performance of the season.
The Stafford Blaze team had a less happy away trip as they were beaten 12-6 by Afford Baize.

topWe are now in week 15 of the league season with 7 weeks left plus bank holidays and no cancelled matches have been played. Can we please start sorting these matches out NOW! All postponed matches MUST be played before the last game of the LEAGUE season, not the semis or final of the Team Knockout. Failure to do so will result in a NO RESULT.
The teams who originally cancelled the matches are highlighted in bold. That team is responsible for contacting the opposition. However, both teams need to come to a reasonable conclusion on setting the date. The committee will offer 3 dates to the teams in the event of a failure by the teams to agree on a date.
DO NOT leave it to the last week to re-arrange the match. This can create problems and the league will not accept this. Please contact the League Secretary, Dave Whitfield, for contact numbers and re-arranged dates.
