Played Sunday 5th November

Dave Whitfield (The Kennys Cue) became the Singles Plate Winner after defeating Chris Broomhall (Kennys) 4-3 in the Final. Broomhall took a 3-2 lead with some fine clearances from difficult positions but a couple missed chances in the last 2 frames let Whitfield back in and he closed the game out to secure the individual plate competition.
In the semi final Broomhall, put in a fine performance to see off the challenge of Robbie Jenkinson winning 3-0 to book his place in the Final. The other Semi Final was a close fought match. Alan Farrow raced into a 2-0 lead but Whitfield pegged him back and took it to a decider. Farrow had a great chance on the black but rattled it and Whitfield seized his chance to win 3-2.

DAVE WHITFIELD 3-2 Alan Farrow (Metro Bar A)

For the first time in 8 seasons, there is a New Singles Champion. Congratulations to Gavin Davies (Kennys Bear) as he ran out a worthy champion by defeating Mike Barker (The Kennys Cue) 5-2 in the Final.
It was Gav Davies's 2nd appearance in the Final, the other being in 2004 which he lost to Tim McGann. It was Mike Barker’s 3rd Final but again had to settle for 2nd place after losses in the 2008 final to Andy Rawlinson and 2014 to Rob Wharne. Rob Wharne (Institute SC) long unbeaten run finally came to an end after losing to Barker 4-3 in the Semi Final. A 46 match winning streak which had seen the England international dominate the Sunday Singles competition since 2010.
However Gav Davies seized his chance and was flawless on the Finals Night as he saw off the challenge of Warren Jesney 3-0 (quarter final), Alan Sim 4-1 (Semi Final) and then Mike Barker 5-2 in the Final. Mike Barker route to the final saw him ran out a 3-0 winner over Aaron Atkin (quarter final) before his famous 4-3 win over Rob Wharne in the semi Final

Congratulations to Hop Pole C’s Alan Mason & Mick Addison on becoming the Stafford Sunday Pool League Doubles champions. They saw off the challenge of Kennys Bear’s Gavin Davies & Jim Simpson in the Final, winning 4-1.
Alan Mason was runner up last season (with Duncan Sunderland) and wins his first individual trophy alongside Mick Addison who had now won his 3rd doubles title (Previously 2001 & 2006 -both with John Grobnik). Gav Davies was a previous winner back in 2005 (with Lee Whitehouse) whereas it was Jim Simpson first final.
In the semi final, defending champions Rob Wharne & Dave Whitfield suffered a 3-2 defeat at the hands of Davies & Simpson. The match featured 3 x 8 ball clearances, 2 by Davies and 1 by Wharne.
In the other Semi Final, Mason & Addison won 3-0 against first time semi finalists Brendon Ruttledge & Andy Pearcey.
In the Final it was a game of tension and a tactical fight. The match took a turn when both Mason & Addison changed the tempo and fine clearances from both Mason & Addison clinch the doubles crown in front of a good size crowd.

AGM News update
Kev Brown and the committee have stated about Matchballs and has said that 'Pro cups' are still to be brought in by the start of the 2018/19 season. Also Kev did say that this season, all teams must now use red and yellow matchballs only, however venues which have RED cloth can use blue and yellow matchballs
Dave Baker has decided to stand down from the committee. Dave has served the Sunday Pool League committee since the day it started and was given a warm and appreciative round of applause from all playing members that attended the meeting. It has been decided that Dave will continue as an honorary committee member with the freedom to join in meetings where it is possible.
I personally would like to thank Dave for all his support, hard work and honest opinions that he contributed to all meetings and wish him all the best for the futures. Cheers Mr Dave Baker It's been an honour.
This means that committee members are needed. Three people have offered their services which was all accepted. They are-
Simon Davies (Institute SC)
Gaz Bryant (Joiners Arms)
Les Murphy (Star & Garter)
Two proposals were brought up at the meeting
1. Stopwatch - after much discussion it was voted against with 5 votes for and 12 votes against
2. 'Lag for break' - instead of toss of coin for alternate breaks, it was proposed that lag for break would be another alternative. Again after discussion it was unanimously voted in and will be in affect as from the start of the Winter Season 2017/18.
Presentation evening will be held at Kennys on Friday 1st December 2017
Winter League Season to start 12th November 2017.

topDave Barker (The Kennys Cues) recently completed a rare hat-trick of 8-balls in the Sunday Pool League.
The run of clearances started with two wins at St Georges, taking advantage of the biggest pockets in the League.
The third consecutive 8-ball was at home against Morris Man where, for good measure (mainly due to poor positional play), he finished off with 2 doubles into the same middle pocket.
The chance of making it four in a row was scuppered when Dave had a dry break in the second half, leaving Rob Wharne holding onto the outright record of four consecutive 8-balls.
topPlayed on Sunday 11th June 2017
Venue - Kennys Sportsbar
ST GEORGES 4-1 GPO Social A
St Georges became the Subsidiary Team KO winners after securing a 4-1 victory over fellow 1st division side GPO A. St Georges already secured the 1st division Title the week before and thus make it a league and cup double.
John Daniels (Georges) was on first against Ant Davis (GPO). Davis went for his shots and looked in a great position until he unfortunately went in off on his final red. Daniels made no mistake and gave the Georges a 1-0 lead.
Robbie Jenkinson (Georges) was next on and took on Mark Sheerin (GPO). Both had chances but then it became a tactical frame and it was Sheerin who seized his chance and pot the black to level the scores at 1-1.
Paddy Baidwan (Georges) took on James Alldiss (GPO) in frame 3. Baidwan showed some fine form and his attacking style of play was rewarded with a nice clearance to make the score 2-1 to the Georges.
Jamie Woolley (Georges) was then paired against Mick Bryant (GPO) in frame 4 and from the start Woolley was in his stride. He took his chance and was rewarded with an '8 ball clearance' to give the Georges a 3-1 lead at the halfway point.
Jenkinson was on fifth and played Phil Alldiss (GPO). The match became a nervous frame and a long tactical battle was evident. Jenkinson dug in and was given a chance, he duly took it and won the match 4-1 to give the Georges the Winter Subsidiary KO trophy.
Another fine Final played in great spirit. Thank you to Lynda Simpson, Jason Armishaw and Neil Addison in refereeing the Final. Also thank you to Kennys Sportsbar for the use of their tables and food.
